Lyrics from Lockdown was a musical theatre show held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. It featured solo actor Bryonn Bain, a small band, and a lighting director. Blending spoken word poetry, hip hop, and music, the 90-minute performance told Bain’s true story of being falsely accused for a crime he did not commit. A panel discussion with social activists and community members was held after each performance every night, discussing issues of racial profiling and mass incarceration in the U.S.
I served as the Associate Producer, handling the logistics for the show. I managed contracts with the venue and performers, booked all travel and accommodations, and managed the budget. I also assisted with marketing and ticketing.
Notable Participants: Adam Foss (Prosecutor Impact), Jennifer Epps-Addison (The Center for Popular Democracy), Sabra Williams (The Actors’ Gang Prison Project)
